Christmas Assembly 2

Thanks

To Alex Palmer for this assembly. Use these stories, or similar ones from your life experience.

Say

When ever I think of Christmas I think of four things:

1. The first was going on a journey.

I spoke about when I was a little girl and having to go on a long car journey to visit my grandparents and how I felt. I then had four children from my class read out something they had written about going on a journey (Visiting family or going on holiday).

2. Next, I said about sending messages.

I spoke about all the different ways we can do that at Christmas. Before the assembly I'd made a large Christmas card for all the staff and pupils. One child in my class held it up and another read it out. I'd also written out a couple of large text messages which one of the year 6's translated.

3. The third thing was receiving visitors.

I spoke about how nice it was to have my family visit my house at Christmas time. I then had some more children read out about the visitors they would like to have at Christmas. The last two spoke about Father Christmas and the presents they would like to have from him.

4. The fourth part was presents.

I'd wrapped up four types of gifts which the children might have received at Christmas. Four children in my class had to guess what they were before opening them.

We then sang a carol

This will be different for every school, but most junior / primary schools will be open to singing a carol. Or maybe you can organise a small choir, as no doubt you'll have a number of enthusiastic singers!

The 'religious part.'

Apply the above four things to the nativity:

Journey - Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem and the 3 wise men travelling a long way.

Messages - Angel Gabriel appearing to Mary to say she was going to have God's son and the angels appearing to the shepherds.

Visitors - Shepherds and wise men visiting.

Presents - A sheep from the shepherd and the gifts from the wise men.

End

I then ended by saying the reason why we celebrate Christmas is because of God's present to us all which was baby Jesus.
